Course Description:

Comprehensive English is a foundation course for English majors taken over the first two years of study. This integrated course develops students’ ability to use the target language appropriately within a context of cross-cultural communicative awareness. Based on a mastery of vocabulary and grammar, Comprehensive English attaches great importance to skill training (listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating) through intensive and rigorous practice, to lay a solid foundation for progression into advanced courses. Comprehensive English also provides students with opportunities to learn cooperatively and collaboratively, and to think critically and creatively.
