Course Description:
Advanced English is a platform course for English majors. It is a progression of Comprehensive English. The objective of this course is improvement of students’ general proficiency in reading comprehension, grammar, rhetoric, and writing. Resources used in the course cover diverse topics such as politics, economics, society, language, literature, and education, drawn from works by famous writers and scholars in western society. Outcomes of Advanced English include expanded knowledge of language and society, understanding of the relationship between society and life, and awareness of cultural differences between English language expression and Chinese language expression, and overall enhancement of English language performance.
