At 2:30 p.m. on February 22, 2023, the final ofcampus trials of the 25th FLTRP Cup English Debate for College Students, sponsored by the English Department of the College of Foreign Languages, was officially held. This competition is the first offline competition held in the post-COVID-19 era in the past three years, and has very special significance.
This school selection competition has gone through two stages: the preliminary round and the final. In response to the epidemic status, the preliminary competition held in December 2022 was held online. The finals were held offline in the Junjin Lecture Hall ofthe School of Foreign Studies. The final was judged by Qian Weiwei, Zhu Yuan and Cao Dan, teachers of the School of Foreign Studies, as well as Bo Gengchen, Zhang Zhihao and Chu Xiaolong, students of the last year's national Debate, and Wu Jiangshuang, students of Class 2204, served as the host.
The final argument is: THW ban ChatGPT in universities.
During the competition, the debaters expressed their views in fluent English, adapted to the circumstances, showed good language skills and depth of thinking, and explored the relationship between human scientific and technological development and conflict from the perspective of science, technology, education and society. After the competition, after the fierce discussion of the judges, Wu Linqi, Grade 20 of the School of Machinery, and Chen Panqi, Grade 20 of the School of Humanities, won the championship. Weng Zhuoyu and Guo Jiayi from the Law School also won the second place. Ding Ding, Li Runpu, Shi Guo, and Pan Yuying won the third place.
After announcing the results of the competition, Ms. Zhu Yuan made a brief comment on the overall competition, and Mr. Zhang Zhihao put forward useful suggestions for the debaters.
The eight debaters will undergo about one month of preparation training, and finally two will be selected to participate in this year's FLTRP East China Regional Competition. Let's hope they can achieve ideal results in the future competition!
This competition has trained the students' thinking ability, improved their English expression fluency, and broadened their thinking and vision. Congratulations to the excellent debaters and debaters! Hope that all the debaters will make persistent efforts and continue to maintain the enthusiasm of the debate!
