Teachers of the School of Foreign Studies Gave a Demonstration of Sharing in the National Seminar on Ideological and Political Teaching of College Foreign Language Education Courses

The National Seminar on Ideological and Political Teaching of College Foreign Language Education Courses was held online on November 20, 2022. Hosted by the School of Foreign Studies of Southwest University and China Renmin University Press, the conference was attended by more than 2,000 college foreign language teachers from all over the country. The conference has 4 thematic reports and 8 cases to share. Wang Weiwei, a college English teacher of our school, was invited to make a speech at the conference and shared the ideological and political teaching design sample ofCollege English Audio-Visual Speaking. This is the only ideological and political teaching case of college English course shared in this conference, which was widely praised by the experts and teachers attending the conference. It is also the second time for our College English course ideological and political construction to be publicly displayed in the national foreign language circle, which has played a good demonstration and radiation effect.

Wang Weiwei selected the seventh unit of the third volume ofCollege English Audio-Visual Speaking Course on the Theme of the New Era. With art as the theme, she advocated the teaching concept of "integrating learning and application". Under the theoretical guidance of output-driven and interactive cooperation, he combined the output-oriented method to set the situation and assign output tasks, and closely linked the language input and output. At the same time, the case method is adopted to analyze different traditional artistic expression forms, and students are encouraged to apply what they learn in the output task. This case reflects the requirements of "Property of High Order and Innovation, Degree of Challenge". Through designing a series of English audio-visual speaking activities integrating language, culture, thinking, ideology and politics, the support is gradually built, encouraging students to conduct independent learning, cooperative learning and inquiry learning. On the basis of acquiring knowledge and skills, it establishes the correct artistic view, improves the aesthetic education quality, and enhances the awareness of the protection and inheritance of traditional Chinese art and cultural confidence.

The School of Foreign Languages has always paid attention to the practice and exploration of ideological and political thinking in college English courses. In 2021, Fang Wenkai, the Dean and Zhu Yihua, the Vice Dean led 7 college English teachers from other universities to compile the third volume of the textbookCollege English Audio-Visual Speaking Course on the Theme of the New Era, which organically integrated the ideological and political elements of the course into the textbook. The College English (Basic) taught by Wang Weiwei was also awarded the demonstration course of Ideological and Political Teaching of Jiangnan University in 2021. In 2022, Wang Weiwei and Zhu Yihua participated in the compilation of theIdeological and Political Case Course of Foreign Language Education in the New Era, which was jointly completed by famous teachers, deans and front-line teachers of 42 universities in China. The course covers multiple languages such as English, Japanese, Russian, German and Spanish, multiple disciplines such as literature, translation and linguistics, and multiple course categories such as professional core courses, public basic courses and public foreign postgraduate courses. It explores the practical path of ideological and political construction of college foreign language courses with detailed teaching cases. In the future, the College English teaching team of our School will fully tap the educational resources in foreign language education, take college English classroom as the "main battlefield" and college English courses as the "main channel", and organically integrate the shaping of values, imparting of knowledge and cultivation of skills in teaching, so as to help the continuous improvement of the quality of talent training in our college.
