Jiangnan Foreign Language Teaching and Research Center holds the 2022 Annual Academic Conference

In order to further implementthe Opinions on Comprehensively Deepening the Reform of the Construction of Teachers In the New Eraandthe Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards (2022 edition)"and "Ordinary High School English Curriculum Standards (2017 edition, revised in 2020),put forward by the CPC Central Committee and The State Council, and promote the development of high quality basic education school in the south of the Yangtze river, on Oct. 30, Jiangnan Foreign Language Teaching and Research Center successfully held the 2022 annual academic Conference by combining online and offline. The conferencewashosted by School of Foreign Languages, Jiangnan University, Wuxi Teacher Development College and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. Forty representatives from Wuxi universities, middle schools and primary schools attended the meeting.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Fang Wenkai, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Jiangnan University. Li Xiaoxiang, Executive Vice President of Jiangsu University Foreign Language Teaching Research Association, delivered the opening speech. Li Xiaoxiang said that the tasks of foreign language education in universities and primary schools are different at different stages, but it is still necessary to explore the construction of a new cooperative education mechanism for foreign language education in universities and primary schools, so as to gather and share the latest theoretical research and practical innovation results of teacher professional development in China from an all-round and multi-angle.

Zhao Xianyu, former Vice president of Wuxi Institute of Education and Science, keynote report titledDeep Reading and Professional Communication. Zhao Xianyu around "emotion, kindness, imagination and intellect" four key words, from their own experience of teaching research and the phenomena encountered in the teaching and research of rational and sharp, pointed out that the teacher is a writer and professional reader, should be integrated into the emotion And imagination to achieve creativity and innovation.

Li Ying, a primary school English trainer of Wuxi Liang Xi District Teacher Development Center, presented a keynote report entitledBig Ideas, In-class and out-of-class Integration Strategies under Reading. Taking unit teaching as an example, Li Ying introduced three resource integration approaches, namely internal discipline integration, interdisciplinary integration and in-class and out-of-class collaboration, which showed that multiple types of resources, diversified activities and life-like scenarios could be used to promote the exploration of theme meaning and enrich the expression of theme content.

Zhou Liping, vice Principal of Yixing Foreign Language School of Jiangsu Province, gave a keynote speech entitledCultural Education: The Value Pursuit of English

Zhou Liping believed that in the process of English teaching, we should not only pay attention to the instrumental nature of English subject, but also pay attention to the humanistic nature of English subject and the cultivation of students' cultural awareness. She constructs the operation path of cultural education from the three dimensions of cultural connotation, curriculum concept and teaching practice.

Su Tianyi, the leader of English Teaching and Research in Tianyi Middle School of Jiangsu Province, made a keynote report titledExploration of English Classroom teaching in Senior High School, Pointing to the Cultivation of Core English Literacy. In combination with the new curriculum standards, Su Tianyi explores ways to implement the cultivation of subject core literacy into the classroom, and cultivates students' basic language skills, patriotism, logical and critical thinking and efficient learning ability by extending the classroom, keeping up with the times, basing on textbooks and typical demonstrations.

Gu Qiyi, professor of school of Foreign Languages, Jiangnan University, gave a keynote speech titledA Survey Report on Extended English Reading in Primary and secondary Schools.She pointed out that teachers are the guarantee to achieve teaching goals, and the expansion of reading teaching can also be the motivation for teacher development, which helps to promote the overall improvement of teachers' abilities and encourages teachers to persist in investment and improve themselves while guiding students.

Finally, Dr. Huang Xinyan, from Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, made a concluding speech at the conference. He pointed out that the Jiangnan Center for the Study of Foreign Language Teaching has made the beneficial exploration in teacher training, teacher professional development, foreign language teaching research and so on. They will continue to provide all kinds of resources, platform, and related subjects in the future to support the basic education and quality of foreign language teaching at colleges and universities development.

The conference brought a feast of teaching and research which closely combined theory and practice. Centering on improving the teaching and research ability of primary and secondary school teachers, it provided guidance for the professional development of front-line teachers from different perspectives, and provided new ideas, new methods and new measures for the foreign language teaching research of basic education in Jiangnan region.
