It’s the season for new students come to Jiangnan University and repotr themselves again. In order to help the 2022 freshmen have a knowledge of college life in advance and get ready for registration, the School of Foreign Languages launched online an series of activities named "Youth Meets Jiangnan", including speech contest, theme essay solicitation, sharing meeting of senior, and meeting of freashmen, through which new students would get to know the university , and express themselves on this platform.
An essay solicitation activity with the theme of "My Struggling Youth" was held on August 26, and received over 50 contributions. The freshmen told their stories of struggle through articles, and expressed their yearning for the picturesque Jiangnan and their goal of pursuing the dream with words and letters. On August 29, a speech contest was held for 2022 freshmen in the theme of "In the prime of youth". More than 20 freshmen actively signed up to participate. The speech contest was divided into morning session and afternoon session. Although it was online, everyone was well prepared, and the speech was full of youth's vitality.
At 7:00 p.m. on August 26, an online sharing meeting was organized for the freshmen. Zou Weijuan, a member of the education support group of graduate students, and Sheng Xiaoyan, one of the top ten students of the school, were invited to share their stories. First of all, Zou Weijuan, as a volunteer teacher, shared her experience as the League secretary of the class and the secretary of the student Party branch, then introduced thework she has done since joining the Graduate Education League and her feelings of working in current supporting area
When talking about the supporting group, Zou said: It is very proud and significant to participate in the Western Plan, and she hopes that she can contribute her strength during this one year experience. Then, Sheng Xiaoyan, as one of the top ten students, shared her own story of struggling. She shared her college experience and insights through the way of interactive Q&A, in which she encouraged the freshmen to establish their own goals and put them into practice during their college life. Even if encounter setbacks, they should stick to it, believe in themselves, and not to give up easily.
From 26th to 31st, each class organized an online meeting for freshmen before they checked in. In the online meetings, new students introduced themselves to each other to get closer. The deputy head teacher shared his/her feelings about learning and life. The head teacher introduced the relevant matters and requirements of checking in, introduced the precautions of online learning in the previous two weeks, reminded everyone to participate in online learning in a timely manner, and give the students who had been delayed to return to school comfort and encouragement. During this period, Liu Boxian, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Foreign Languages Institute, together with the grade counselor and the head teachers, carried out a "cloud" home visit and condolence activity for the freshmen with financial difficulties through video link, which sent warmth and care to the Institute and brought confidence and strength to the freshmen.
