In order to help freshmen understand the history of Wuxi and improve their cultural literacy, the Youth Volunteer Association of the School of Foreign Languages organized a visit to the Wuxi Museum in the afternoon of October 2 for the 2022 batch. The Wuxi Museum is located in the center of Taihu Square, the urban hall of Wuxi. It is a comprehensive local museum that integrates display, scientific research and art appreciation.

At 1pm, braving the heat, volunteers organized the signing in of students at the entrance of the museum. After entering the museum, the students posed for photos and were overwhelmed with excitement. Inside the museum, the docents explored the past and present of Wuxi together with the students: from Majiabang culture, Songze culture and Liangzhu culture in primitive times to Ancient Wuyue area in the Spring and Autumn Period; from the bountiful supply of food in the Tang and Song dynasties to Wuxi’s development of commercial economy in the Ming and Qing dynasties.

The docents led the students to visit two internet-famous sites. One is a model of the County government of Wuxi, the seat of the city's government for more than 2,000 years. Its buildings are symmetrical and carefully arranged. The other is the Huishan clay sculpture "The Feast of Peaches", one of the key highlights of the collections, in which the clay people are lifelike with vivid and natural expressions.

Generations of Wuxi people are tireless: Qian Mu, Qian Zhongshu, Qian Weichang... Thanks to the profound educational heritage of Wuxi, the students are greatly inspired. Great men are like beacons, illuminating the way forward. Students are expected to turn knowledge into motivation, what they see and what they hear in this trip will promote them to work harder and strive towards the ideal goal in the following university life.

This visit to the museum is part of the entrance education for freshmen of the School of Foreign Languages. The exhibition will help them gain a deeper understanding of Wuxi and enhance their sense of belonging to the city.
