After a series of processes including online application, review by the competent department of universities, evaluation and voting by the National Advisory Committee on Teaching English Language to Majors in Higher Education, the General Office of the Ministry of Education have finally released the list of 2021 national and provincial first-class undergraduate specialty construction programs where our English and Japanese majors are also selected.
In line with the philosophy of demonstrating the features of light industry and cultivating the major force for all walks of life, the English major in Jiangnan University has always seen moral education as the top priority and developed talents with appropriate methods. With a focus on international business, communication service and foreign language education, our major, based on the new concept of liberal arts, aims to produce domestic featured professionals with excellent basic language skills, solid specialized knowledge, comprehensive language capacities, patriotism, broad horizon and the ability of applying their knowledge to other sectors. We now have a well-structured teaching team with 32 young and outstanding full-time teachers including 12 professors, what’s more, 60% of teachers have doctoral degrees; In addition, the college employs 6-10 foreign teachers throughout the year; with the efforts of our faculty, we have condensed our own characteristic research directions in modern and contemporary English literature, translation and international communication, language and cognition, which creates highlights for our major and leads to fruitful achievements.
With the fundamental task of providing talents for the strategy of reinvigorating China through human resource development, our Japanese major meets the national demand in a targeted manner and stays commit to the philosophy of internationalized education and integration of regional economy. In pursuit of cross-culture professionals with international competitiveness, we will make efforts to cultivate world-class talents possessing patriotism, global vision and innovation ability. At present, the Japanese Department has 19 in-service teachers, including 1 professor, 4 associate professors, 11 lecturers, 3 Japanese teachers, and 9 doctors (89% of them are overseas doctors). In recent years, Japanese teachers have continued to make great efforts in professional teaching and actively carried out academic research achieving a series of results. The Japanese major now undertakes 11 national and provincial projects, as well as a number of research and teaching reform projects at municipal and school levels. Every year, we publishes a large number of research papers and some academic works and textbooks in domestic and foreign academic journals.
The college will continue demonstrating the light industry features of Jiangnan university by making most of our industrial advantages, inheriting Jiangnan culture through local development and improving our educational quality in order to cultivate first-class foreign language talents.
