To implement the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, and actively respond to the call of Jiangnan University on the greater and higher-quality employment of college graduates, Fang Wenkai, President of the School of Foreign Studies, from August 2 to 4, led a team to develop “Uphold Innovation and Morality with Famous Enterprises” research activity. People participating in this activity are: Huang Chengfang, former secretary of the Party committee of the school, Liu Boxian, deputy secretary of the Party committee of the school, Cheng Fang, director of English Training Center, Gu Haixing, counsellor of the school and student representatives.

On August 2, the research team first visit the project “Big Dream City” in Zhang Zhu, Yi Xing, which is a commercial real estate project founded by Zhao Wei, vice chairman of the board of directors of Jiangnan University. In this visit, Fang, on behalf of school of foreign studies, introduced the basic situation and future planning of the school, and express positive recognition and high praise for the entrepreneurship of our alumni and also gratitude for their support in recent years. Liu Boxian stressed that this research activity was developed with the goal of improving the quality of talent training, aiming to promote high-quality employment of graduates and enhance the interactive effect of between college talent training and the social needs. During the discussion, Zhao Wei recalled his campus life, talked about his entrepreneurial experience, expressed his gratitude for Jiangnan University and high recognition of the three graduates of School of Foreign Studies. He sent words to students to respond to national strategy for rural revitalization, and forge characters in solid work. Both sides indicated that they will make unremitting endeavor for building the market-oriented and socialized employment and entrepreneurship mechanism for college graduates.

Subsequently, the team investigated Jiangsu Yicheng Heavy Industry Machinery Co., Ltd., which owns rich practical experience in production. Zhao Cheng, the general manager, mentioned that the company had achieved positive growth with flexible consistency strategy with the influence of the COVID-19 and would continue to expand the company’s scale and also the overseas markets in the future. The two sides dug into issues like the single flow of talents, the lack of professional talents in township enterprises and the employment intension and expectation of college students. They hoped that students could be down-to-earth, strive to become inter-disciplinary talents and aspire to the development of township enterprises to embrace a better future.

On August 3, the team went to the economic development zone of Rudong Yangkou Port. Shao Feng, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of this zone, introduced its basic situation and the idea of building a 100 billion level energy island and a 100 billion level industrial port. Later, the team visited Gold Hongye Paper (Nantong) Co., Ltd. and CNPC LNG Terminal. Fang highly praised their innovative environmental protection concept and production mode with “localization and intelligence” at its core. The two sides expressed the need to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation, build cooperation platform and encourage graduates to practice and work in Yangkou Port to push its economic development to a new level.

On August 4, the team visited Jiangsu Mildly, Yiyuan and other home textile Co., Ltd., which are based on high-end textile production and export. The team and these enterprises’ leaders mutually introduced their situation and discussed issues like business management, cultivation of students’ innovation ability, talent recruitment and growth system, hoping to establish a normal interactive mechanism, cultivate professional foreign trade talents who could undertake tasks alone with the professional characteristics of the industry, further strengthen information exchanging and cooperative space widening to achieve mutual benefit and joint development.

This fruitful research activity was developed with a tight schedule and a firm step. And School of Foreign Studies will continue to carry out relevant specific project, carefully planning the visit route and research objects considering the needs of national economic and social development. The school will deeply think about the way for foreign language education to adapt to the development of the times and the needs of market, deeply study the new mode of talent training, constantly expand the scope of high quality employment cooperative enterprises, optimize the source exchanging between the school and enterprises and do a good job in employment services.
