“I’ve arrived at the east gate”. “Now I will return to the campus”. “Students have safely arrived at Changguangxi Hotel”...... From noon to midnight, from the east gate to the school infirmary then to the hotel, Wang Hongjun and Liu Boxian have been continuously escorting 2 students, with Wang working outside the campus and Liu working inside the campus. They provided students with 24-hour security service, which is not only their responsibility of fighting COVID-19 , but also the commitment of teacher volunteers from School of Foreign Studies.
“To be a volunteer for 24-hour emergency, I can do it!”
The moment the school’s Emergency File 26 was issued, Party committee of School of Foreign Studies decided to recruit volunteers among teachers, which gained the teachers’ active response. Finally 23 teachers signed up for it and constituted the volunteer team. Given the students’ emergency, the volunteers needed to be awaiting orders for 24 hours and ready to go to campus at any time even if the emergency occurred at night. Wang Hongjun and Liu Boxian were just in the volunteer team. “Now is the critical period of fighting COVID-19 on campus. As a head teacher, though not inside the campus, I am still able to work outside and do some pick-up and drop-off work. Students need our help in such emergencies”, said Wang, reflecting her responsibility and accountability during the action.
“Students have been escorted safely.”
The minute Wang got from the volunteer group the message that a volunteer was badly needed to escort a student to go to the hospital outside at 1:00 pm, Wang said she could do it and accepted the task. After the information docking, she got ready for going to the east gate to wait for the student. After picking up the student, Wang patiently inquired the student’s request and talked with him to ease the student’s mood. “I will arrive at the east gate in about 5 minutes.” “Okay, I am about to get to the east gate.” After Wang and the student arrived at the east gate, Liu Boxian completed the docking work with Wang. Finally, in the company of Liu, the student arrived at the hotel safely. “Only when I saw the student enter the campus safely could I leave relievedly”, replied Wang in the group. The safety of students really matters a lot to teachers. During the period of fighting COVID-19, it was teachers who accompanied students and stayed in students’ hearts.
“Received. I’ll come right now.”
Word came from Liu in the group at 6:00 pm that an emergency student needed transferring to another hospital. “Received. I’ll come right now”, Wang replied and immediately set off for the east gate to wait for the student. “Now I am at the east gate.” Since the student needed emergency treatment, he had to go through formalities to get out of school and thus Liu accompanied the student to finish the formalities and transferred the student to Wang at the east gate. Then, Wang sent the student to see the doctor outside. At 10:17 pm, Wang informed the group that there was about 15 minutes to arrive at the east gate. “Okay, I have arrived at the gate.” After Wang and the student got to the east gate, Wang took the student to register his information. Next, Liu escorted the student to the hotel and messaged that the student has entered the hotel safley and that please don’t worry. The volunteer group is full of teachers’ timely response to students’ request. From “received” to “don’t worry”, teachers formed the “closed loop” of guarding students through their persistent efforts.
Let’s make joint efforts to fight the pandemic and overcome the current difficulties! On the podium three feet, they are teachers who impart knowledge and educate students; outside and inside the campus, they are guardians and protectors of students. Through continuous efforts from day to night, the volunteer teachers from School of Foreign Studies have been guarding students with practical action and shouldering missions with a sincere heart!
