In order to respond to online teaching, the School of Foreign Languages make preparations in an orderly manner. The English department and the Japanese department have made careful arrangements. While establishing the course Ding-Talk group and backup teaching platform according to the requirements of the school, and organizing the pre class test, they ensure that the students can enter the group in time and receive the course notice and news through multiple communication channels such as the school’s MOOC platform and student affair office.
At the same time, teachers prepare lessons online through the course group to strive for the smooth progress of the first lesson and ensure the teaching quality of the course. Since Monday, all teachers have devoted themselves to teaching with great enthusiasm, and there have been no accidents such as equipment failure or teaching delay.
The students who postponed returning to school studied as usual. “Two days before the online class, I worked with the teacher to make all the students in the class join the group in time, remind them to sign in and other tasks in the class group, and organize to punch in the self-study every night. Starting from getting up early at 8 a.m. every day, I also actively urged myself to develop the habit of self-discipline when completing the learning task.” The students who choose to return to school are serious and devoted: “they take online classes carefully in their dormitories. They don’t disturb each other, but they will supervise and remind each other. The learning atmosphere for everyone to make progress together is very good.” Students have reflected that “teachers are well prepared. Even in online classes, we still have a lot of interaction like offline classes.” “In the online classroom, the students are more active and speak freely. Moreover, the electronic materials uploaded by the teachers and live videos provide us with more and more convenient learning channels.”
With the assistance of all departments of the University, all teachers of the School of Foreign Languages earnestly implement the requirements of the undergraduate teaching work plan for the second semester of the 2021-2022 academic year of Jiangnan University, carry out the teaching reform of separating teaching from examination, complete the training of constructing ITest test question bank for all staff before the class starts, set up class groups, send learning communication notices, and combine Ding-Talk, QQ, Wechat and other channels to ensure the smooth online learning of English class students from different majors in the whole school.
