At 2 p.m. on October 31, the fire drill for the 2021 undergraduate freshmen of Jiangnan University was held in front of the first teaching building as scheduled. Each college sent student representatives to participate in the exercise. Each participant carefully prepared, watched and studied.
The exercise process was roughly divided into four parts: evacuation and escape, biological and chemical weapon attack, battlefield medical rescue, and firefighting drill. The content was diverse and professional. The whole fire drill was guided by the commander. Firstly, the scenario assumption was made: each college assigned some students to enter the teaching building to simulate class. When the air defense alarm sounded, according to the instructions, each college escaped orderly from the East, South, West and North Gates and evacuated to a safe area. The whole escape process was orderly and rapid. After the evacuation, the commander commented on our evacuation process. Next, volunteers wore gas masks to demonstrate the protection against biological and chemical weapons attacks. An orderly anti-virus team was trained to enter the simulated fire scene in batches for biochemical drug detection. The students watched a new biochemical attack exercise, which greatly widened their horizons.
Then, the first aid team of the medical college transferred and rescued the wounded on the scene. Each ambulance worker was very dedicated, with clear division of labor and high efficiency. While protecting their own safety, they transferred and placed the wounded at a very fast speed. This made the students realize the cruelty of the fire scene and the greatness of the on-site medical emergency personnel.
Finally, the firefighting drill was carried out. This was the climax of the whole fire drill. University had provided whole-new fire extinguishers for this purpose. Firstly, the commander demonstrated the correct operation of dry powder fire extinguishers-- "one take, two lift, three pull and four pressure", aiming at the root of the flame for effective fire extinguishing. Then the students came forward to experience the fire fighting. In the face of the burning fire, although they were nervous, they still showed their enthusiasm and bravery, and put out the fire orderly according to the fire extinguishing steps and methods. This also reflected the students' serious attitude towards the exercise and their strong learning ability.
The fire drill was successfully completed with the cooperation and efforts of many parties, which strengthened the students' awareness of fire safety. Following the fire-fighting speech of the teacher of Wuxi fire rescue team, this drill turned the abstract safety knowledge into a concrete practical exercise, which enabled everyone to have a basic understanding of the response measures in case of various emergencies, greatly enhanced the students' safety awareness, and accurately implemented the safety education of the school. This drill made the students not only exercise their body and will, but also broaden their horizons and master some self-help and self-protection skills.
