After the National Day holiday, the enrolled freshmen here in Jiangnan University began their required course — a two-week military training. This year, they are having a special “cooling” military training.

When it comes to “Military Training”, the relating words come to our minds are probably like: burning sun, profuse sweat, sun-tanned skin or as tired as a dog. But this year, due to the epidemic, school starts a month later than usual, hence military training is postponed to October, a cooling season. Stepping into October, Wuxi rarely has the temperature above 30 degrees, yet with the large temperature range, morning and evening are much cooler and noon and afternoon are hot as well as summer in the sunshine, pretty much like the saying "wearing a leather jacket in the morning but a yarn at noon".

So far, a week has passed since the military training started. The first two days were still shiny, but on the third day, a special guest visited — Wuxi's first autumn rain. While everybody thought the military training would be suspended due to the rain, the training activities continued as usual.

“This is the first time I took the military training in the rain, drenched and felt a bit cold. Yet as our instructor said, the sufferings we are experiencing now will become good memories that we can “bragger” about. This new life experience will definitely become an unforgettable memory in my university life.” Xu junya, from English 2003 said.

“In the rain, we are more determined. The loud and neat slogans represent our will to fight hard; the lofty and unified military songs during rest demonstrate our persevering spirit. In Autumn, rainy day and chill is inevitable. But the rain cannot erase the traces of our struggle, the cold wind cannot shake our upright posture. We demand ourselves by the standards of a soldier, not to say bitterness, not to give up, just like military singing ‘If the country is to be strong, we must take responsibility’!” Liu Chuhan, English 2001 said.

As the old saying goes: “It is getting colder with every rainfall in the Autumn.” At this point, the following days will be getting cooler and cooler. There’s only a week left for the military training. Hope you enjoy the rest of your journey!
