Course Description:

Understanding English Drama is an elective course for English majors. Through the selected readings of major British and American playwrights’ masterpieces, the introduction of the cultural background and the social thoughts in the plays, and the analysis of the language features, especially emphasis on the understanding and appreciation of the language of English drama, this course aims to help students apprehend the content and styles of the plays, and types and elements of drama. As a result, this course will develop students’ ability to appreciate drama, and teach students how to comment on the whole play or some important scenes and express their own points of view. At the same time, this course will help students who are interested in drama lay the foundation for their further study, and prepare for their graduation theses.
